Conviction & Embrace

This Lenten season, we will create space for the Lord to move for the sake of growing closer to Jesus and the way of Jesus. The way of Jesus is life and life abundant. It is also life through constraint, sacrifice, and even suffering. Our own missing the mark, our own sin, keeps that life far from us and keeps the work of death close. Pursuing life means giving God space to convict us of sin and to embrace us with forgiveness. Conviction of sin by the God of love gives us space to seek God for life, mercy, and for forgiveness. Condemnation simply closes us in our own darkness. It robs us of hope. Yes, conviction exposes our sin as light piercing darkness. However, the revelatory light of conviction is joined by the warmth of the Father’s love for us. We will experience both this Lent as we go deeper with Conviction & Embrace, our Lenten teaching series.

As we finish out the Conviction and Embrace series, we will consider what it means to practice conviction in community. What kind of people must we seek to become if we are to speak words of conviction wisely and winsomely into one another’s lives? How can we avoid the pitfalls on the one hand of never speaking words of challenge to one another, and on the other hand of doing so in harsh and unredemptive ways that lack all humility and self-awareness? Thankfully, the Scriptures have much to say to help us find our way, so bring a friend and come out on Sunday to learn more together about “Practicing Conviction in Community.”
