Being God’s people—or even thinking or asking about God—in a secular age can be challenging. The values God asks us to live by and the values of the culture around us sometimes simply do not match. What does it look like to be faithful in a society that doesn’t always support faith? The biblical book of Daniel tells us the story of a group of friends doing exactly that: following God in a sometimes-hostile environment but finding, ultimately, that God has great plans for them in a foreign land. They learn to be a creative minority, seeking the flourishing of the place where God has sent them.
