As we approach Thanksgiving, we are days away from exactly six months after George Floyd was killed in late May. As a church, we chose to mark 50 days later — the length of time from the Cross to Pentecost — as a time of remembrance and action not only for George Floyd but Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and so many more names and before and, sadly, after May 2020. Those days have stretched into months. In this time, we continued our journey to love justice, do mercy, and walk humbly with our God through prayer (the 8:46, praying with Ice the Beef, etc.), service (giving financial assistance to Black-owned businesses, weeks of action that called us to serve our city), and justice and awareness (Reimagining Authority, engaging NHPD and local activists, and more). This Friday, Josh will lead our last Reimagining Authority of 2020 as we remember, pray, act, and commit to the way of Jesus in a world, country, and city that so deeply needs Jesus’ upside-down Kingdom.
