The season of Advent coincides with the darkest part of the year for us, so we want to celebrate the coming of Jesus, the light of the world, with a weekly Service of Light. For four Wednesdays beginning on December 2nd, we will gather on the patio of FSUMC between 5:30-7:30 pm. Each Service of Light will include three different expressions of worship.

During this year’s Advent season we have decided to partner with Christian Community Action, one of our local nonprofit organizations, for a food drive to support families in need. Our drive will start December 4, 2020 and you will be asked to drop off your donations on December 20th at the church. This year we are looking to help 20 families by creating 20 food baskets for their Christmas holiday.

Join us for an outdoor storytime on December 6 from 10:00-11:00 am in the Evans’ backyard with some special Christmas surprises! Hot cocoa and warm apple cider will be provided. Please RSVP to asha@elmcityvineyard.org.

We are told that Christmas is “the most wonderful time of the year” but many of us enter the holiday season carrying hurt, pain, loss, anxiety and stress – especially in this year of pandemic – and find it less than wonderful. Our Blue Christmas service is a place to acknowledge our emotions and loss, and bring them to God and in our connection with Him, receive His peace, and yes, even joy in the midst of our hurt. Come out to our Sprouts Bake Sale & Craft Fair on December 13 from 11:00 am-2:00 pm to support our ECV kids as they raise money to help families moving out of homelessness in New Haven. We’re so excited to partner with Christian Community Action again this year in the wonderful work that they do! Our contemplative advent service is a time to slow down and reflect on the Christmas story. Through Scripture and contemplative practices we will enter into a time of anticipation of the long awaited Jesus and allow ourselves to behold Jesus and in the beholding let Him transform us and fill us with hope. Join us on Zoom on December 18, at 8:00 pm.

We’ve decided to get creative and bring our talents to the center of downtown— The New Haven Green. Join us on December 19th at 12:30 pm for a time of socially-distant Christmas singing and celebration. We’ll meet right in front of the church and find a great place to sing in the crowds. Join us for our Digital Christmas Pageant on Sunday, December 20, during our normal 4:00 pm church slot online. This is our annual No Stress Christmas Pageant digitally reimagined.
